Our guests love to wonder through the woodlands and parklands. This is truly a place to relax make your heart sing and let your sprit soar. On your stroll you will come across many surprises - our wishing tree, the stone labyrinth, a walled ornamental herb garden - you may even spot deer, rabbits and pheasant.

Everything at Kingscote Park and the Matara Centre is beautifully presented with love and care to ensure your day is extraordinary. Our food is no exception; we are passionate about home cooking with fresh local ingredients, and sharing it with friends and family.

Leo our vegetable gardener has prepared our own home grown culinary herbs and organic vegetables. We will partner this with other passionate, like minded local growers within the Stroud valley to ensure a local seasonal supply of vegetables for all our Matara celebrations.

People who are attracted to Matara enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and want their food to be casual, friendly, and fun.   Hog roasts, barbecues and buffets are fun. Guest can choose from a wide variety including vegetarian and vegan meals.

We work simply and happily, with the best and freshest ingredients to produce high quality tasty food. 

A meal requires a harmonious balance of saltiness, sourness, sweetness, bitterness to stimulate but never overwhelm the palate

We have selected plates and bowls that display the food at its best. Each arrangement is unique to the day.

Simple

In line with the importance of serving food as freshly as possible, we work with vibrant colours and flavours keeping the cooking as plain as possible and easy to prepare and only requires minimum attention before serving.

Healthy

Every meal should have 5 colours: white, red, yellow, green, black to achieve a nutritious diet

We want food that is tasty and healthy; low fat, low cholesterol, less dependent on meat and dairy products and more on vegetables and fish.

No GMOs, no transfats, additives, or microwaves. We cook only with olive oil

We season with soy sauce, miso, rice vinegar, sake, and mirin

Our vegetables are lightly cooked  which not only maintains its full nutritional value and preserves the subtlety of flavour, also by keeping our food closer to its natural state.

We have the freshest of fish delivered daily from Cornwall
